Dal Conservation: Both sophisticated ‘Water Master’ machines defunct

Srinagar, May 6: The two sophisticated dredging machines, called ‘Water Master’ used for Dal lake conservation are defunct from the past 3 months.
Insiders said that authorities at Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) are taking no interest in the repair of these imported machines.
They said that these machines worth crores of rupees were imported from Finland.
“These machines are used for dredging and other purposes and help in conservation of Dal Lake. Unfortunately, both these machines are defunct and not being repaired by the Mechanical Wing of the LAWDA,” insiders said.
Some of the Dal dwellers also said that they haven’t seen any ‘Water Master’ machines functioning in the Dal lake for the past couple of months. They said VC LAWDA has failed in the conservation of Dal Lake.
Vice Chairman LAWDA, Secretary and Executive Engineer Mechanical Wing didn’t respond to repeated phone calls. (KNT)
