Srinagar, Jul 17: Amid ongoing pandemic, the 656th Urs of Hazat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA), popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdani and Amir-e-Kabir ((RA) was on Saturday observed at Khanqah-e-Moula in Old Srinagar City with religious fervor and enthusiasm.
Notably, the authorities didn’t allow congregational prayers at Khanqah-e-Moula and other places last year in wake of the deadly pandemic.
The annual Urs of Shah-e-Hamdan is observed on 6th Zil-Hijjah of Islamic calendar.
As the congregational prayers were allowed this year amid the pandemic, the devotees in large numbers including men, women, children and old thronged Khanqah-e-Moula shrine today, witnesses said.
They said that the devotees were seen following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other guidelines on the occasion were also followed.
The religious clerics on the occasion threw light on the life and achievements of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) and expressed hope that the teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA) shall remain alive in all times to come.
The Urs of Shah Hamdan (RA) was also observed with religious fervor at Jinab Sahab Soura, Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, Kabamarg and Khiram Sirhama in Anantnag, Dooru Seer Hamdan, Aham Sharif Bandipora, Budgam, Kupwara and Bandipora.
Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamadani Abidi (1314-1384) also known as “Shah Hamdan” (King of Hamadhan) and as Amir-i-Kabir (the Great Commander) was a Persian Sufi and a prominent Muslim scholar.
He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and has had a major hand in shaping the culture of the Kashmir valley. He also introduced the skills of famed handicraft amongst the people for which Kashmir is famous all over the world. (KNO)
