Srinagar, Aug 23: Brewing strong resentment, residents of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district Monday accused the authorities for failing to undertake repair work of the Srinagar-Bandipora road.
While complaining the issue, the locals from several area of the district said that the Bandipora-Srinagar road at many places including Nasoou, Papachan, SK-Payeen, Ajas, Bazipora, Shadipora, Dangerpora and Chorthung Pass is dotted with potholes posing risk of accidents.
They said that the road is totally in a dilapidated condition for the last few years but the authorities have failed to even pay a visit to ascertain the damages of this road.
Even a group of locals said that they had to visit Bandipora town frequently for their routine work and their vehicles often got damaged due to bad condition of the road.
“We do not understand now when this dilapidated road will be repaired and how long we will have to wait,” locals said.
“While the main road is in bad condition, the interior roads are even worse, with most of them remaining mere mud tracks, ” Ishfaq Ahamad a local, said, adding that the filthy condition of Bandipora-Srinagar road has disappointed the locals for many years.
Nowsheen, a student from Sumbal said that she is upset because she has to travel from Srinagar to Bandipora every day catering to the dilapidated condition of the road.
“Due to the bad condition of the road and lack of proper drainage system, the commuters are facing problems. This problem manifolds during the rainy season, thus making the road accident prone,” Mujtaba another local from Ajas said.
The residents of these areas appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter in order to redress their grievances.
