Jammu, Nov 22: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, General (Retired) V. K. Singh, Monday visited Jammu to review several mega projects being undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
In this regard, he had a comprehensive meeting which was among others attended by Principal Secretary PW (R&B), Shailendra Kumar and concerned senior officers of the UT.
Union MoS was briefed by Executive Director (P), NHIDCL RO Jammu and Srinagar, Regional Officer, NHAI RO Jammu and Chief Engineer Projects, BRO about the status of various projects being undertaken by their respective organizations.
Executive Director (P) apprised the Union Minister of the strategically important projects of Z-Morh, Zojila Tunnel, NH144-A and NH-244 being undertaken by NHIDCL.
Union MoS had a detailed review of current status of various ongoing projects of NHAI and BRO and issued directions for further accelerating the pace of progress on all ongoing vital projects for timely completion. The issue of approval and up gradation of in-principal National Highways was also deliberated upon.
Shailendra Kumar, while speaking in the meeting, urged upon the Union Minister to take up additional projects in the UT of J&K. He also highlighted the need for connecting certain historically and culturally important destinations of the UT with the National Highways for enhancing the tourist potential.
Later, Union MoS reviewed the arrangements being made for the visit of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways on 24th of November in connection with laying of e-foundation stone for 25 National Highway Projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
