Srinagar, Jan 4: As many as 107 non- governmental organizations and associations are eligible to receive foreign funding under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010 in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The details reveal that as on January 4, 2022, 107 NGOs were eligible to receive foreign funding under the FCRA in the erstwhile state of J&K.
According to Union Home Ministry’s dashboard, 107 organisations in the erstwhile state of J&K (J&K and Ladakh UTs) are “alive or active” i.e. they are eligible to receive foreign funding.
In 2015, the number of NGOs which were eligible to received foreign contributions in J&K was 164.
The data also shows that FCRA registration of 50 organisations has expired in J&K while the registration of 64 organizations has been cancelled.
The data also shows that two NGOs- one from Srinagar and another from Baramulla- were registered under FCRA in 2021.
While FCRA clearance is mandatory for all NGOs that accept foreign contributions, the government makes public the names of organizations which receive over Rs one crore in overseas contributions in a financial year.
In 2009, the Centre had blacklisted four groups from Jammu and Kashmir from receiving foreign contributions.
They were barred under Section 10(a) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976.
