Growing population, growing challenges

As the world observed International Women’s day, there are dozens of women across Kashmir, striving hard to get their basic rights within their families. This comes at a time when the government has been taking measures to ensure women empowerment across Jammu and Kashmir. According to the figures available, the religious clerics have claimed that the cases of domestic violence have increased manifold, thus leaving the womenfolk to lurch at large. One fails to understand why society is depriving women of their rights. These disturbing reports have come as an utter shock to the people, but at this juncture, the government has failed to ensure proper implementation of the safety rules in Jammu and Kashmir. The woman, as a mother, is always a first school for the kid, be it a male or female. However, the situation for the womenfolk has turned from bad to worse as the number of domestic violence cases continue to record an increase with each passing day, painting a grim picture of the society. Celebrating the day will never bring respite from the difficult situation they are facing day-in and day-out. Nonetheless, the ground situation has to be changed and thus everyone has to play a pivotal role in this regard and ensure an immediate end to domestic violence. Women empowerment is the need of the hour, but at the same time, there is a need to pay attention towards the grave issue so that the womenfolk here could heave a sigh of relief.
