DC Budgam for conducting massive sanitation drives across all Panchayats

Budgam, Apr 1: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza Friday called for conduct of massive sanitation drives across all Panchayat halqas in the district.
The DC said this while chairing a meeting on implementation of SBM-initiative at New Conference Hall Budgam.
Stressing on cleanliness and maintenance of proper sanitation in all rural areas, the DC urged PRIs to launch the cleanliness drive at all villages and ensure clearance of legacy waste from all habitations, roads, water resources and other open areas so that it is properly disposed-off by April, 20th this month.
The DC instructed concerned BDOs to ensure proper hand holding of PRI members and ensure strong community participation, engagement of youth clubs, sanitation committees in the sanitation programme.
He said that religious leaders, NGOs, teachers, students and SHGs and other organized workers should also be taken on board in each Panchayat for result-oriented implementation of the programme.
Panchayat members were instructed to ensure identification of dumping sites, segregation sheds, for proper disposal of both legacy and routine waste generated from households.
He impressed upon creating massive awareness on use of separate dustbins, segregation of waste, use of compost pits and greywater management at both household and community level.
He urged designated nodal officers to ensure implementation of complete ban on use of polythene and single use plastic items in all Panchayats, instead convincing the general public to use cloth bags for the safety of the environment.
He said the sanitation programme should be implemented on mission mode across the district and assured that best performing panchayats shall be rewarded for the exemplary work.
At the outset, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Budgam, Zahida presented a case study of successful SBM programme of Tamil Nadu through a power point presentation and sensitized Nodal officers, PRIs, and other concerned about their role for the successful implementation of Solid Liquid Waste Management in the district.
She also deliberated upon the need for fixing of potholes, pits, removal of bushes and beautification of the villages through the sanitation programme.
The meeting was attended by GM DIC, SDM Khansahab, ACD, ACP, all BDOs, all Nodal Officers for Sanitation and other concerned officers and officials.
