Anantnag, May 19: The Addl. Commissioner Kashmir, Qazi Sarwar Thursday reviewed the Right of Way (RoW) issues along the National Highway 44 in Anantnag.
He was accompanied by ADC Anantnag Gulzar Ahmad, SDM Bijbehara, Tehsildara from various concerned tehsils, representatives from Police, CRPF and others.
The Additional Commissioner inspected various structures along the highway which have been constructed in violation of the norms and without proper permission from concerned quarters. The various structures included several abandoned buildings, some commercial establishments and various residential constructions. He issued strict directions to the concerned officials to issue notices to the erring encroachers and take appropriate action.
Demolition of some structures being raised illegally was also carried out during the tour. Taking cognisance of illegal usage of RoW spaces alongside the highways by commercial establishments including crushers, Rs 10,000 fine was imposed on the erring establishments.
The Addl. Div Com took strong note of several ramps that have been developed by people for accessing the highway. He said such ramps created security as well traffic management concerns and can cause accidents. He said that issues related to road maintenance have been noted and will be taken up with concerned quarters.
Qazi Sarwar inspected the Navyug tunnel and took stock of the functioning of the central control room in the tunnel. He was apprised by the officials present that monitoring of traffic inside the tunnel is carried out round the clock and emergency response teams have been deployed to tackle any eventuality.
The officers from Revenue Department apprised the Addl. Div Com of action initiated against encroachers in various RoW cases and assured him that all cases highlighted today will be acted upon swiftly.
