Govt sets up UT, district level panels on road safety

Srinagar, Jun 6: The government on Monday ordered the constitution of UT level monitoring committee and appraisal committee at the district level for implementation of a scheme of financial assistance for administering road safety advocacy and awards of outstanding work in the field of road safety.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a UT Level Monitoring Committee and Appraisal Committee at the District Level, comprising the following, for implementation of Scheme of Financial Assistance for Administering Road Safety Advocacy and Awards for the outstanding work in the field of Road Safety” reads the order.
As per order, Administrative Secretary Home Department will be chairman of the UT level committee while as Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Administrative Secretary, Transport Department and Additional Director General of Traffic, Police will be members of the committee besides that Transport Commissioner JK/Commissioner Road Safety will be member secretary of the committee.
“The UT level Monitoring committee shall quarterly review and monitor the implementation of the scheme,” it added.
As per order Appraisal Committee at the District Level will be comprising of District Magistrate (concerned District) as Chairman, Senior Superintendent of Police (concerned District), Chief Medical Officer (concerned District), Regional Transport Officer (in respect of Jammu, Kathua & Srinagar Districts) and Assistant Regional Transport Officer (in respect of other Districts of Jammu and Kashmir) will be members of committee
“The Appraisal Committee shall review and approve the proposals. on a monthly basis, as communicated by the concerned Police Station(s)/Hospital(s).” Order reads.
“The Appraisal Committee shall send the list of selected good Samaritans to the Transport Commissioner for further payment of remuneration, through electronic mode,” it said.
