Baramulla, Jun 9: In view of growing menace of drugs and to spread awareness among the students about ill effects of substance abuse, the Education Department Baramulla in collaboration with District Administration today organized a Seminar on Drug De-addiction and Career Counselling at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Baramulla in which a large number of students and teachers participated.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Sehrish Asgar said that drug abuse poses a serious challenge to our society and urged upon different sections of the society to act vibrantly against this menace.
She also stressed upon the parents to closely monitor their children and urged them to help their wards choose different career avenues through which they channelize their potential and energy in a positive way. She further advised students to choose best company for them to have a positive impact in their social lives.
On the occasion, the DC directed Chief Education Officer to organize weekly programmes on Drug De-addiction and Counselling programmes so that a mass awareness is disseminated among the students with regard to the ill effects of drugs and also clubs be established in every school across the district where Counselling with regard to career building information and guidance is provided to the students.
The DC in her address complimented the organizers as well as the participants and highlighted the need to protect our young generation from the menace.
She further said that District Administration Baramulla is going to establish helpline for the general public who shall inform to the concerned authorities about the youth involved in drugs and accordingly the steps are taken for their Counselling to have curb on Drug menace in the district.
President Municipal Council Baramulla, Touseef Raina also spoke on the occasion and threw light on ill effects of drugs in society and stressed upon the civil society among religious preachers, teachers and students to come forward to highlight the causes and consequences of drug abuse.
Meanwhile, a variety of cultural items were presented by the students regarding drug abuse enthralling the audiences with their scintillating performances.
On the occasion, the Chief Education Officer Baramulla handed over a cheque of Rs. 20 Lacs to Deputy Commissioner for Red Cross Society Baramulla in order to help needy and downtrodden sections of the society particularly widows, orphans and disaster effected in the district.
Later, the DC had a detailed question answer session with the students wherein she shared her experience with the students regarding career counselling. She further advised students to work hard in their respective fields and excel in their academic and professional careers.
