Srinagar, Jun 22: J&K is witnessing a fresh spike in COVID cases as 40 people tested positive on Wednesday while as one COVID positive patient also died, officials said.
As per the details, there are 209 active cases in J&K which includes 78 from Kashmir and 131 from Jammu division.
Experts said that there was no need to panic about the slight surge in cases.
“Positive patients have mild flu like infection and recover in just two to three days,” they said.
Doctors Association Kashmir President and Flu expert Dr Nisar Ul Hassan said that there is some rise in cases and all is not Covid-19 as children have flu like illness mostly and most of the times non-covid respiratory viruses as they were indoors for around two years. “Children were less immunized to these viruses and now they have come out and contract it as the virus has not died down,” he said. “There is no need to worry as Covid has become endemic and there will be up and downs like flu cases round the year. Case counting with regard to Covid has become irrelevant now as it should be hospitalization rates which can determine whether we need to worry.”
Dr Nisar said that despite the fact that there is little surge in cases, hospitalization is zero and there is no need to worry as most of the people are immunized that is why there are mild not severe cases.
“As of now there is no new variant, however, the immunity level in some people may have lowered and they might be getting virus,” he said.
Meanwhile, a doctor from GMC Srinagar said that Covid cases are rising but there is no need of panic and whosoever is testing positive has usually mild form presenting with fever, body aches, sore throat and cough and it resolves in a few days.
He said that despite the fact that there are symptoms in many people but they are very mild and if people have symptoms they must go for testing and isolate themselves as a precautionary measure.
“People must not be complacent, must remain vigilant and must use masks at least outdoors,” he said.
