Amarnath Yatra: IGP holds final security review meeting

Srinagar, Jun 27: Three days ahead of the start of annual Amarmath Yatra, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar held a final security meeting, reviewing “real threats and counter measures.”
Official said that IGP Kashmir held final security review meeting related to annual pilgrimage to cave shrine in south Kashmir’s district of Anantnag.
GOC Victor Force, IG CRPF, DIsG of BSF, ITBP, CRPF and police besides all districts SSsP and COs of south Kashmir attended the meeting.
“Real threats and counter measures being taken by police and SFs were reviewed,” a senior officer said.
He explained the agenda of the meeting as strengthening of coordination between Army, CAPFs and J&K Police and stressed upon the concept of joint responsibility & accountability and coordination for the safe, secure and smooth Yatra.
IGP Kashmir highlighted the eminent threat from militants and stressed for strengthening of the intelligence grid so as to neutralise them, a police spokesperson said.
“He also discussed the other threat perceptions for Yatra as well as tourists and emphasized for establishment of a proper security grid,” he said, adding, “While taking district-wise security review and stock of arrangements put in place for yatra, he also elaborated the role and responsibility of all the four districts of South Kashmir which were represented by the concerned District SsPs.”
On the occasion, he said, the senior officers of Army/Security Forces also presented detailed presentation and shared their valuable inputs/suggestions for strengthening the overall security grid and providing fool proof security cover to the Yatries during their forward and return journey. “Special attention was laid on regular briefing and de-briefing, cut-off timings, elimination of threat of sticky bombs/IEDs/grenade lobbing and drone attacks, security of parking areas, traffic management, ROP, implementation of SOPs etc.”
On the conclusion, IGP Kashmir emphasized that multiple checking points must be established for restricting un-registered Yatries to reach to Base Camp to avoid chaotic situations.
“He also directed that all stakeholders be taken into confidence by creating synergy and cordial relations with them so as to achieve objective of conducting successful Yatra,” the spokesperson said, adding, “He also emphasized on the role of supervisory officers for ensuring briefing and de-briefing, strengthening of the intelligence grid on ground, alertness of deployed nafri, intensified legal action on OGWs and following all the SOPs in letter and spirit.” IGP Kashmir also stressed on better coordination, cooperation and cohesive efforts between all the different agencies on ground including Army, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, Civil Administration and Police for safe, secure and smooth yatra.
