Career guidance can transform Kashmir’s young minds

The vacations are always pivotal for the health of an individual, but whenever the summer vacations are being announced for the doctors, the people always come up with objections, raising query that the decision would land the patients to lurch at large. Although the concerns are genuine, there is a need to understand that these doctors have not gone for a vacation since the outbreak of the deadly pandemic, Covid-19. The doctors posted in different hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir are already overburdened as the Union Territory is facing shortage of doctors, thus forcing the existing number of medicos to tackle the huge rush of patients on a regular basis. As the authorities at Government Medical College Srinagar are mulling to go for summer vacations in two halves, some medicos claimed that the move is taking a heavy toll on the patients and this elite practice must be stopped. Getting some respite from the workload cannot be termed as an elite practice, but there should be some more facilities or provisions for the medicos so that they can keep themselves fresh while coming out of the overburdened duty hours. One needs to understand that the workload for medicos in Jammu and Kashmir is taking a heavy toll on the health of the doctors and amid such happenings; the men in white coats should not be forced to work like an animal, but some respite and vacations are the need of the hour. The government should not delay announcing the vacations for the doctors so that they are able to get some respite after three years of hectic workload.
