Srinagar, Aug 16: All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Tuesday appointed former minister Vikar Rasool Wani as new president of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) while Ghulam Nabi Azad and Tariq Hameed Karra have appointed as head of Campaign Committee and Political Affairs Committee respectively.
Vikar Rasool Wani has been appointed as new JKPCC chief while Raman Bhalla has been appointed as party’s working president.
AICC General Secretary, K C Venugopal in a statement has said that Congress President has accepted the resignation of Ghulam Ahmed Mir from the post of President, Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee. The party appreciates his service, the statement said.
“Congress President has also appointed President & Working President and approved the constitution of Campaign Committee, Political Affairs Committee, Coordination Committee, Manifesto Committee, Publicity & Publication Committee, Disciplinary Committee and Pradesh Election Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, as enclosed, with immediate effect,” Venugopal further said.
Mir had submitted resignation on July 06, 2022, after serving as JKPCC chief for eight years.
He tendered his resignation only after the Udaipur declaration adopted by Congress wherein it decided that no leader can assume the charge of president for more than five years.
Notably, the names of a few leaders including Vikar Rasool Wani, G M Saroori, G N Monga and Peerzada Muhammad Syed were put forth by the party for new JKPCC chief.
According to a document prepared by AICC, former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has been appointed as Chairman of the Campaign Committee while Tariq Hamid Karra and G.M. Saroori were appointed as Vice Chairman and Convenor respectively.
Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Tara Chand, Thakur Balwan Singh, T.S Bajwa, Shabir Khan, Neeraj Kundan, Abdul Majeed Wani and Fairoz Khan have also been included in the committee, the list said, adding that PCC President and Working President will be the Permanent invitees.
As per the document, Tariq Hameed Karra has been appointed as Chairman of Political Affairs Committee while Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Saifuddin Soz, Peerzada M. Syed, Taj Mohiyuddin, Tara Chand, Mula Ram and Khemlata Wakhlu will also be the part of the PAC. AICC In-charge PCC President and Working President will be the permanent invitees, the document reads.
