Ganderbal, Nov 2: Due to lack of fencing at the Power Canal of Upper Sindh Hydro Power Project (USHP 11) passing from Rayil to Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has become a death trap for people.
In year ”1965” the Power Canal was constructed by Power Development Corporation (PDC) but unfortunately it has now become a death trap for people because concerned department has not been able to erect fencing since past several decades.
As per locals, it has become a death trap for not only local population but for animals as well. They said this power Canal is passing from Rayil, Gund, Fraw, Haknar, Sumbal, Kangan and other adjacent areas but a vast portion is without fencing causing huge inconvenience.
Locals said that during past several years, many people drowned in the canal.
They added that this power canal did not benefit the local area except for the loss of precious lives.
“In 2013 Power Canal breaks out near Kullo Mohallah due to which residential houses were suffered massive damage, while some Kanals of land was destroyed,” they said.
Locals have demanded that the Power Canal fencing should be installed as soon as possible so that no more valuable human life is lost. The people of the area appealed district administration to look into the issue.
