Forests play a key role for human survival and the experts have rightly said that damage to it is the cause of around 10% of global warming. It is imperative to preserve the forests and there is simply no way to fight the climate crisis if deforestation is not stopped forthwith. From 2001 to 2021, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has lost 4.06kha of relative tree cover, equivalent to a 100% decrease since 2000 and 0.20% of the global total. The environmental experts have warned that the deforestation, if continues, is all set to affect human survival as well. But, one fails to understand how the people at the helm of affairs are preserving the forests in Jammu and Kashmir. The urbanization in the forest areas has badly affected the woods here and thus is impacting human survival slowly. The forests are home to many animals, but when the greed of the people leads to the deforestation, the animals like leopards, bears and others started entering into the habitations, leading to the man-animal conflict in which many people especially children have lost their lives. The man-animal conflict is increasing at a rapid pace, but what needs to be done is to preserve the forests—the home for many, so that the precious lives are saved as well as the environment is not affected anymore. There is a need to take immediate and necessary measures in this regard so that the possible devastation or catastrophe is prevented.
