Sopore, Apr 11: Police on Tuesday said they busted a “major interstate” drug module by arresting five persons including a kingpin woman and her boyfriend in multiple cases in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The contraband substance was also seized.
Terming it a big achievement, SSP Sopore Shabir Nawab, said that more arrests are likely.
Addressing a press conference at Police Station Bomai, SSP Sopore said that police have managed to bust a major drug module by arresting an absconding kingpin woman, whose family is also involved in the drug abuse trade and is lodged in different jails in multiple cases. “Besides the lady, four others have also been arrested in this module,” he said.
He said that on March 01, the police during a naka at Tarzoo held two persons identified as Tanveer Ahmed Shah and Javaid Ahmed Shah of Sopore along with 3512 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon plus tablets. “During the investigation, they revealed the name of another person who is involved in selling drugs in and around Sopore. The arrested person was identified as Amir Sadeeq Parra of Chandoosa Baramulla. On his personal search, 112 tablets were recovered,” he said.
SSP Sopore said during further investigation, the names of two kingpins identified as Urooj, daughter of Mohammad Muzzafar Bhat of Batapora Sopore and her boyfriend Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Late Farooq Ahmed Mir of Hathishah Sopore, also surfaced. “The duo was involved in supplying drugs from outside the valley to Sopore and other areas. On the confession of the arrested persons, we managed to arrest the duo from Srinagar outskirts along with 1648 capsules. With their arrest, we have managed to bust a major interstate module,” he said.
About Urooj, the kingpin, the SSP said, “Her whole family is involved in the drug trade and have multiple cases registered against them, while her father Mohammad Muzzafar Bhat has 8 cases and is lodged at Delhi Central Jail, her brother Yawer Ahmed Bhat has 15 cases and is currently lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu. Yawer has been recently booked under PSA as well. Her mother Afreena Begum has one case against her and was recently bailed out after a few years.”
Meanwhile, a case FIR No 07/2023 U/S 8/22-29 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Bomai. “We are collecting the details and the investigation has been taken up. More arrests are likely,” the SSP said.
