As the maximum temperature has increased across the Valley, there is a need to keep eyes on the Nallahs, river and other places to ensure that the ban imposed on swimming and bathing at these water bodies are implemented in letter and spirit. Every summer, the Kashmir Valley has recorded several deaths in Nallahs after the people, especially children, drowned while taking bath at different places across Kashmir. It was only because of the deaths that the administration in several districts ordered a complete ban on taking bath, at the water bodies. However, despite imposing a ban, it has been witnessed that the youth including minors are taking bath in different Nallahs, streams and other water bodies, but the action against them has been delayed, putting a question mark over the seriousness of the administration in preventing the loss of precious lives. It has become imperative at this juncture to identify all the spots where the people are seen taking bath to beat the heat and ensure that such happenings are put to an immediate end. The time has come to save the precious lives this year and thus the squads from both—police and civil administration must be formed to ensure that the precious lives are saved by ensuring complete implementation of the order. The district administrations should also consider closing the areas for the public movement where the youngsters are usually taking bath amid the increase in the maximum temperature.
