JK Govt orders age extension for university professors

Srinagar, Jul 3: Higher Education Department Monday approved Conditional’ enhancement of age superannuation for University Professors from 62 to 65 years.
Under Secretary, Higher Education Department, Rubia Afroz Inqalabi said that the government in this regard has directed the Higher Education to convey that the administrative Council under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor, J&K has ‘enhanced the age of superannuation of university professors from 62 to 65 years’.
“However, a committee constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary of J&K shall examine each case separately and take a decision regarding enhancement of age on case to case basis,” reads the official notification.
The department said that the performance of university professors shall be reviewed and evaluated based on the parameter set by the government before attaining the age of 62 years:
It said that the authorities will check on the overall performance of the professor, physical and mental health suitable for teaching and research assignments in the university and general conduct standards as per Civil Service Regulations of JK government.
According to the notification, the government will also check the teaching contribution of the professors like the students feedback and new pedagogical approaches adopted in the teaching and workload.
About the academic contribution, the Higher Education Department said that it will also check the number of publications, books, chapter in books, seminar, conference and workshops attended, MOOCs, development of new syllabus and courses, patents and consultancy assignments, awards and fellowships, positions held etc.
The parameters further include the research contribution of the professor like number of research publications in reputed journals, number of Ph.D candidates enrolled, number of PhD awarded and research projects or research fellowships.
