The officials have from time to time carried out the drive in this regard in a bid to ensure the directions regarding ban on polythene are implemented in letter and spirit. However, the drive doesn’t sustain for a long as there has been no end to the use of banned single use plastic and polythene in the markets. There are people who question the seriousness of the administration in ensuring the complete ban on single use plastic and the polythene in the markets as the situation has not changed on the ground as the people continue to use the material without any hesitation as it seems nobody is bothered to make a change for the society. There is a need to ensure complete ban on polythene in the ground for which the measures must be taken and a massive drive in this regard is the need of the hour as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has called for an end to the plastic pollution while addressing the G-20 Environment meeting yesterday. The shopkeepers, street vendors and other business establishments must be directed to comply with the orders in letter and spirit so that the environment is prevented from ill effects and the people here could heave a sigh of relief.
