Three soldiers injured in Kulgam gunfight

Kulgam, Aug 4: Three soldiers were injured in an ongoing encounter that broke out in Hallan forest area of Damhal Hanjipora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Friday. However, the operation has been suspended for the night.
A police official said that three soldiers from 34 Rashtriya Rifles got injured and were shifted to 92 Base Hospital based on Badami Bagh.
The condition of all the three injured soldiers is stated to be critical,” the official said.
Police also said that the search in the area has been intensified.
“#KulgamEncounterUpdate: Three (03) jawans got injured in the #encounter. They are being evacuated to hospital for treatment. Search in the area intensifies. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.
Earlier, police in a tweet said that the encounter broke out in the forest area while Army and Kulgam Police were on the job.
“#Encounter has started at high reaches of Halan forest area of #Kulgam district. Army & Kulgam Police are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.
A police official said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
Meanwhile, the operation has been suspended for the night.
