Huge cache of arms, ammo recovered in Machil sector: Army

Kupwara, Aug 18: The Army on Friday said to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Army in a tweet informed about the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a joint operation by Army, J&K Police and BSF.
“Joint Operation launched by #IndianArmy, @BSF_Kashmir and @JmuKmrPolice in #Machhal Sector #Kupwara from 15-18 Aug 23 based on Intelligence inputs by various agencies of likely presence of a cache of war like stores,” Army tweeted.
The Army further informed that “Huge cache of arms and ammunition to include 05xAK Rifles, 07xPistols, 04xHand Grenades, and other incriminating material have been recovered.”
Meanwhile, Defence Spokesperson in a statement issued to KNO said that based on concrete intelligence inputs by agencies on attempts by terrorists to induct war like stores into Kashmir Valley from across the Line of Control, a Joint Operation was launched by Indian Army, BSF and JKP from 15 to 18 Aug 23 in Machhal Sector, Kupwara.
During the search operations, the spokesperson said that huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered at around 1100 hours on 18 Aug to include five AK Series Rifles, eight AK Magazines, seven 9mm Pistols, fifteen 9mm Pistol Magazines, four Hand Grenades, 7.62 mm AK Rounds, 7.62 mm AP Rounds and 9 mm Rounds and other incriminating material.
“The search operation is still in progress. Extensive search of the area is being carried out. The recovery of such a large cache of arms and ammunition is a huge setback to the nefarious designs of terrorist organisations to disrupt peace and tranquility in Kashmir Valley. Security Forces in complete synergy are always combat ready and are committed to keep the Valley safe and secure,” the statement further said.
Meanwhile, Border Security Forces (BSF) Spokesperson in a statement issued here said that on specific BSF input, a Joint Operation was launched by troops of BSF, Indian Army and J &K Police along the Line of Control, Sector Kupwara, Kashmir on 18th August 2023, during which the war like stores were recovered.
Quoting IG BSF Kashmir Ashok Yadav the BSF spokesperson said that the successful operation is the result of strong operational synergy between BSF and Army on the LoC.
The spokesperson while quoting IG BSF further said that the successful operation has once again thwarted attempts by various terrorist organizations to disrupt peace and tranquility in the Kashmir valley.
