Srinagar, Aug 24: Jammu and Kashmir is one of the few places of India wherein the crime rate is very low, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta said on Thursday.
Speaking during the ‘Gen Next Democracy Network Programme’ under the Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) at SKUAST-K, Mehta said, “ Jammu and Kashmir is one of the important places of India wherein crime rate is lower than any other states.”
The Chief Secretary said, “Figuring at number two in e-governance services in the country, Jammu and Kashmir has 914 online services.”
Talking about the hospitality of Kashmiri, Mehta said, “Till date, not a single tourist has been harmed here.”
He said that people of Kashmir have saved many lives of tourists and during the action they have harmed themselves.
“Across the world, there is no better hospitality than in Kashmir. That’s what Kashmiri’s are famous for,” Mehta said.
He added that the time has come when people need to see the Jammu and Kashmir in a new way. “Since 2019, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has developed a lot.”
The Chief Secretary also said, “Nowadays, there are no more restrictions, locals and other tourists roam around freely.”
“Since 2019, we have implementing the rule of law properly like a democratic country does,” Mehta added.
He further said that the students of Jammu and Kashmir for the first time in past more than three decades have been able to go to colleges without any issues.
“In Kashmir valley, almost 70 percent of the people are directly or indirectly relying on agriculture and the government is trying hard to double the GDP of agriculture and horticulture of Kashmir,” Mehta said. (KNO)
