Sopore, Sep 14: Residents of Hadipora and Behrampora in Rafiabad area of Sopore on Thursday complained that they are without drinking water supply from the last couple of weeks.
Aggrieved residents who were up in arms against the Jal Shakti department said that they are facing acute water scarcity even as people are being forced to drink unhygienic water which is posing serious health issues.
“There is no drinking water in their villages and they are being compelled to fetch water from a Nallah flowing nearby and drink contaminated water which is unhygienic and health hazardous for them,” they said.
Drinking water scarcity also triggers a protest demonstration at Behrampora area with the residents blocking the Sopore-Watergam road.
“It has been several months and the area is without drinking water supply”, a lady protestor said, adding that they have been continuously pressing for their demand, but to no avail.
The residents said that they have been moving from pillar to post to get their genuine demand redressed but every time their pleas fell to deaf ears.
The protesting residents, however, urged administration to look into the matter to ease their hardships.
Meanwhile, contacting officials at the Jal Shakti department, Watergam couldn’t be materialized as AEE concerned didn’t answer the phone calls. (KNO)
