Ganderbal, Oct 9: Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, Senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, University of Kashmir, has achieved the rare distinction of being featured in Stanford University’s esteemed list of top two percent scientists in the world for the fourth consecutive year.
Originally from Zazna-Ganderbal, Dr Parah completed his education (M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D.) at the University of Kashmir.
Stanford University’s Scientist ranking for the year 2023, a comprehensive database curated by John Ioanniqdis of the University of Stanford, California, USA, was published on October 04, 2023, by Elsevier. The ranking evaluates the global impact of top scientists’ work worldwide based on a composite C-Score.
Dr Shabir has been recognised in the Field of Networking and Telecommunications, particularly in the sub-field of Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing, Information and Communication Technologies. This acknowledgement highlights his outstanding research contributions in Multimedia Security and Biomedical Image Processing.
Dr Shabir said, “I am thankful to Almighty Allah for this achievement. The main challenge after achieving excellence in a field is to maintain it over a period of time. I dedicate this achievement to my mentor Late Prof. G. Mohiuddin Bhat, my family, my research scholars, co-authors, colleagues, and collaborators for helping me achieve this feat for the fourth consecutive year. This remarkable journey of global recognition began in 2020 when I was the sole representative from Kashmir University.”
Alhamdulillah, our group has grown each year, and this year, ten more colleagues from the University of Kashmir have joined this prestigious list, he said.
“I am confident that as a collective, we can inspire many more and enhance the visibility of our university on the global stage,” Dr Shabir said.
With a remarkable portfolio of over 185 research papers published in internationally reputed Journals and Conferences, Dr Parah’s work has significantly influenced the field. He has contributed to high-impact Journals such as IEEE Transactions, IEEE Journals, and publications from esteemed publishers like Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley.
Furthermore, he has edited three books on Multimedia Security (Springer-Nature), Artificial Intelligence for Innovative Healthcare Informatics (Springer-Nature), and Intelligent Multimedia Signal Processing for Smart Ecosystems (Springer). He has also authored more than 30 book chapters in various books published by renowned publishers including Elsevier and Springer.
Dr Shabir has supervised ten doctoral students, guiding them to their Ph.D. degrees in Electronics, and has mentored over 30 M.Phil and M.Tech Theses. He has established strong research collaborations with esteemed institutions globally, including Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), South Korea, Sejong University, South Korea, University of Bradford, UK, University of Technology Sydney, Australia, Coventry University, UK, Institute of Tele-informatics Engineering Federal Fortaleza, Brazil, Universitat Politécnica de Valencia, Valencia, Spain, University of New South Wales, Australia, and American University Dubai.
In addition to his research achievements, Dr Parah has been honoured with six IEEE Conference awards, including three Best Technical Paper Awards: one at ICAECC-Bangalore (2014), two at INDICON-New Delhi (2015), Best Algorithmica Award at ICIIP-Shimla (2017), Best Paper Award in the track of Image Security at IEEE-IBSSC-Mumbai (2022), and Conference Researcher Award at IETE-ICECMA-2022.
