Police book drug peddler in Baramulla, seize Rs 1.6 lakh

Baramulla, Oct 10: Police in Baramulla seized drugs worth Rs 1.6 lakh from a drug peddler and booked a notorious smuggler.
An official from the Police department said that Rs 1.6 lakh linked with FIR No. 44/2023 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act in Police Station Kunzer of a drug peddler Mansoor Ahmad Wani @ Suriya of Kharpora Kunzer was seized after obtaining legal sanction from competent authorities.
The cash was being used for illicit trafficking, the investigation as per the official revealed.
Police in Baramulla had attached properties worth 2.27 crores of drug smugglers which includes 3 houses, 3 vehicles and a cash amounting 1.12 crores this year.
In Pattan, police booked a notorious drug smuggler under PIT NDPS Act and shifted him to Kot Balwal jail in Jammu.
Hilal Ahmad Sofi @ Sheera son of Gh Nabi resident of Bazaar Mohalla Pattan has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority, official said.
“Sofi had multiple FIRs against him, however, he didn’t mend his ways which prompted us to put him behind bars under PIT NDPS Act”, police said.
While appealing the peddlers to shun their path, officials said that the Baramulla Police is committed to the well-being of the community and is dedicated to fostering a drug-free environment for the youth.
