While there is no let up in the power crisis in the Valley, the government has made strict directions to the concerned Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) that the unscheduled power cuts will not be tolerated. At a time when the directions were made, the government at the same time has vowed that the power scenario in Kashmir will improve within a week as a panel has been already constituted for procuring the additional electricity here in wake of the power shortage that led to the frequent power cuts. As the power demand has been increasing in wake of the early winter chill in Kashmir, the government has seemingly found it imperative to procure more electricity to meet the power demand in the Valley. The additional power procurement will help the administration to put an end to the unscheduled power cuts, which the government has itself admitted is more painful. The panel needs to consider all the angles and take a favourable decision at earliest so that the consumers across the Valley could heave a sigh of relief amidst the chilly weather conditions. Moreover, the night inspection accelerated by the KPDCL will help in curbing the power theft in Srinagar and elsewhere, which would also help in maintaining a balance and ensuring adequate electricity to the consumers. The people should also cooperate with the government at this juncture so that the power theft and illegal hooking will be reduced and the power supply is improved at the shortest possible time.
