Awantipora, Jan 23: Public Darbar held by the Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain is emerging as a beneficial initiative, providing a direct platform for the public to raise concerns, seek assistance and engage with law enforcement. People say this approach promotes transparency and community involvement, and further strengthens the relationship between the police and the public.
According to a news agency, hundreds of people on Tuesday gathered at District Police Lines (DPL) Awantipora to present their issues to DGP J&K and seek resolution.
Approximately 1200 applications were received during the Darbar, with on-the-spot directions given in many cases to address the concerns. DGP assured that for pending cases, a committee would be formed.
A woman from Anantnag district shared her ordeal to KNO, saying that her husband was killed by terrorists two years ago, and her son was also attacked but he survived. “For the last two years, I have been moving from pillar to post, seeking employment for my son under SRO,” she said.
Expressing gratitude after meeting DGP, she expressed hope that her matter would be resolved soon. “The DGP Sahab assured me that my son would get a job,” she said.
An elderly man from Budgam raised concerns about an officer unlawfully claiming ownership of his land. He credited DGP’s public Darbars for providing a platform to address such issues.
“DGP Sahab assured me that justice will be done. I’m hopeful that action against the involved person will be taken soon,” he said.
Another person from Pulwama said he has been struggling for the last eight months to get his issue resolved. He alleged that an official was asking him to make him a distributor of his company.
“DGP Sahab directed the concerned authorities to take immediate action against the official,” he said, adding, “Such Public Darbars must be held in every district as they are crucial for the timely resolution of issues faced by the less privileged.”
The attendees of the Darbar said similar redressal programmes must be held in every district so that the issues and concerns of the people are swiftly resolved.
