Srinagar, Feb 7: The Radio Diagnosis Department has extended MRI services at the Super-Speciality Hospital (SSH) in Shireen Bagh, Srinagar to Sundays as well.
An official from the Super Speciality Hospital, GMC Srinagar, informed that the decision to offer MRI services on Sundays has been taken to reduce patient waiting times.
While MRI services are available daily from 8 am to 8 pm, the facility will now operate from 10 am to 4 pm specifically on Sundays, he said, adding that the hospital currently conducts MRI scans for an average of 20-30 patients daily.
With MRI facilities not yet available at district hospitals and the newly established GMC, there has been a consistent flow of patients to SSH for MRI services, the official said.
“Patients have sometimes experienced short wait times for MRI appointments, while at other times, they have had to wait several days depending on patient volume. This initiative is expected to significantly decrease patient wait times, ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment,” he said.
Doctors said MRI plays a crucial role in diagnosing a range of conditions including neurological diseases, spinal cord lesions, vascular disorders, musculoskeletal conditions and abdominal and pelvic conditions.
“MRI is more than just a diagnostic tool; it is essential for precise diagnoses and informed treatment decisions,” they said.
The decision by authorities to extend MRI services to Sundays has been widely praised by the general public.
