Eid-ul-Adha in Kashmir: A festive blend of faith, culture, community spirit

Kashmir is famous for its art and artisans. The government has honoured several artisans so far for their tremendous work in their respective fields. On the 75th Republic Day, the Government of India has recognized the work of Ghulam Nabi Dar, a local resident of Srinagar City, for his work in wood carving. Dar was given Padma Shri, the top award of the government level for his work, which would surely encourage the youngsters to learn the art for their livelihood. There are hundreds of artisans in Kashmir, who have made the nation proud with their work, but one needs to understand that these artisans cannot face the challenges easily until and unless the government finds a solution to pave the way for the artisans to promote and learn their respective arts. While the government is in process to develop and redesign several already existing projects, there is a need to promote the art, handicraft material and others by placing the stuff made by artisans at the most visited places so that the art is promoted at every level. From Srinagar International Airport to Clock Tower and other places, the government should consider placing some prominent places at these places so that the people visiting the spots would come to know about the culture, heritage and most importantly the craft of Kashmir. It is the time when the artisans need to be assisted by promoting their handmade stuff so that the people from different countries and parts of India would recognize the art and also boost the local economy as well.
