Pulwama, Feb 14: Hundreds of people associated with sheep breeding in the Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are suffering as the post of veterinary assistant surgeon has been vacant for the last five years.
Official sources said that around one thousand breeders, owning thousands of sheep, are registered with the department.
These sheep breeders are suffering whenever they have to treat their livestock as the post of veterinary assistant surgeon has been lying vacant for the last five years, they said.
“Five years ago, a veterinary assistant surgeon posted in Tral had gone to America for higher studies but since then, authorities have not only failed to post a doctor here but they seem to be unconcerned about the issue,” said a sheep breeder, wishing not to be named.
These breeders said they require doctors very often for the treatment of their livestock. We had informed higher-ups several times but nothing has been done so far in this regard, they said, adding that there are quintals of sheep wool lying with them but no takers.
“We urge Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the issue,” the sheep breeders said.
An official of the Sheep Husbandry Pulwama said that they had several times informed the concerned officials about the vacant post. “We have even written to higher-ups and we hope the post is filled soon,” he said.
