The markets are abuzz with the shoppers ahead of holy Muslim festival, Eid-ul-Fitr, but what remains missing from the ground is the lack of market checking as the shopkeepers and street vendors have started looting the public by selling their products at exorbitant rates. This situation has been witnessed yet again as the concerned department has not launched a massive drive against the illegal profiteers here, thereby paving way for them to loot the public as per their whims and wishes. Since the people are out to buy essentials, clothes and other items nowadays, the markets should witness a massive check by the concerned authorities to ensure that the common people are not pushed to the wall, but unfortunately the action seems missing on the ground. Although some people have been fined for not adhering to the government set rates, the action in this regard needs to be initiated at a large scale so that nobody could dare to loot the common masses ahead of the festivals. One fails to understand why there has been delay in launching a massive drive in this regard at a time when the public demand over such an issue has increased manifold. At this juncture, the teams for market checking must be constituted in every district across Kashmir so that the common masses are not pushed to the wall and action against those involved in illegal profiteering will be dealt with strictly as per the law.
