The incessant rainfall for the last couple of days has once again led to the flood-like situation in many areas as the water level in different water bodies has increased rapidly, indicating a further surge in the water level in next 24 hours as the weatherman has predicted fresh spell of light rains. The rainfall has, however, inundated several areas of Srinagar, especially the streets, lanes and bi-lanes, thereby leading to the inconvenience of the commuters and pedestrians alike. But, at this juncture, the main focus should be on how to tackle the situation that has emerged after the incessant rainfall here. With every water body witnessing an increase in the water level, the government needs to remain steadfast and in a ready mode to tackle any emerging situation. The people of Kashmir have witnessed a deluge in the past almost 10 years ago and therefore the authorities need to take prompt and adequate measures at this juncture to ensure that any mistakes done in the year 2014 are not repeated. The district administrations as well as the concerned departments should remain in touch round-the-clock at this juncture to ensure that there is no loophole in any kind of preventive measure and also the situation like 2014 is not repeated. The Control Rooms established in every district and Police Divisions should remain available round-the-clock during this time and respond to the distressed calls on time so that any untoward incident is prevented without any delay. Moreover, the dewatering machines should be deployed across Srinagar so that the commuters will heave a sigh of relief.
