The interest waiver offered by the government under Power Amnesty Scheme has turned out to be major relief for the domestic consumers as over 13 thousand consumers has been able to clear their dues by taking the advantage of the scheme. The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) in its official communiqué claimed that as many as 13,985 domestic consumers have availed the scheme for waiver on late payment surcharge with KDPCL collecting revenue of Rs 12.41 crore so far. This scheme has brought a sigh of relief among the domestic consumers as it helped them to settle their long pending bills. Keeping in view the response of the domestic consumers, the KPDCL has extended the offer till March 31, 2025 to facilitate those domestic consumers who have not been able to avail its benefits earlier. But, such offers that have paved a way for the domestic consumers and simultaneously helped the KPDCL to collect huge revenue from the consumers should not be limited to the domestic consumers only, but the commercial consumers should also get some opportunities like this to clear their pending bills. The traders have been demanding the government to extend the offer to the commercial consumers also so that it can help them to clear their bills. The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) should consider extending the interest waiver offered under Power Amnesty Scheme to the commercial consumers so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
