The Muslims are set to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on Monday and will be sacrificing the animals in order to obey the teachings of Islam. However, it has been observed that some people are throwing the waste of sacrificial animals including the hides and offal in the open, thereby putting the lives of the common masses at risk by giving birth to the infectious diseases. But, one needs to understand that throwing the waste of sacrificial animals in the open is against the principles of Islam as the religion doesn’t teach the Muslims to disrespect even the skin and offal of the sacrificial animals. The concerned Srinagar Municipal Corporation in the summer capital and other Municipal Committees in other districts have pressed its men to collect the skin of the sacrificial animals in different areas. The people, who are going to follow the religious obligations, should ensure that all the procedures are followed diligently. The slaughter and post-slaughter processes shall be carried out diligently, taking care of the animal wastes including offal and hides. The blood and other body fluids, discards are rich sources for infection growth and can cause public-health and environmental concerns. The indiscriminate disposal of offal and hides in open areas, drains and water bodies, possess a bigger risk of disease transmission and they not only invite animals to devour them but can contaminate the drinking water sources, both open and ground water, thus causing water borne infections and diseases. Therefore, the people should ensure that the waste including the skin and offal is not thrown out in the open in order to prevent infectious diseases and also ensure a healthy society.
