Srinagar, Jun 16: The Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country are all set to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha with religious fervour on Monday, June 17. The festival falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.
The biggest congregational prayers are expected at Hazratbal shrine in Kashmir where thousands of people are expected to join Eid prayers and also listen to sermons on the teachings of Islam.
The Waqf Board and the administration have made all the arrangements for smooth congregational Eid prayers and the festival.
Officials said that special arrangements have been put in place for the day across religious places in Kashmir.
An official said that the top officials in the administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a series of meetings to review the arrangements for the festival of Eid-ul-Adha.
He said the meeting was also attended by the Deputy Commissioners and representatives from Health, PDD, Jal Shakti, FCS&CA, Legal Metrology, Animal Husbandry and many other departments.
Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael (AS) on the command of Allah. Later, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) slaughtered an animal after he passed the test of Allah.
People slaughter sacrificial animals on this festival to follow the practice of Ibrahim (AS).
In Kashmir, major congregational Eid prayers will be also held across all mosques and shrines in Srinagar including Masjid Jamiat-e-Ahlehadith Gaw Kadal; Asar-e-Sharif Jenab Sahib Soura; Asar-e-Sharif Shehri Kalashpora; Ziarat-e-Makhdoom Sahib (RA), Khanqah-e-Maula and other Masjids and Shrines.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha.
In a message, the Lt Governor said, “Heartiest greetings and best wishes to all on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
The sacred festival of Eid-ul-Adha is a symbol of selfless sacrifice and sharing. Let us, on this occasion, reaffirm our resolve to further strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and unity. May Eid-ul-Adha bring peace, prosperity and joy for everyone”.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah extended warm greetings to people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
In his message Dr. Farooq said, “As the Muslim Ummah unite to observe Eid-ul-Adha, I take this opportunity to extend my warm greetings to everyone on the blessed and auspicious occasion.
“The auspicious day commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) to sacrifice his son, Hazrat Ismail (AS) in the way of the Almighty. The all merciful Almighty however spared Hazrat Ismail (AS) by staying in Hazrat Ibrahim’s hand and placing a ram in his place. Hence the day is reminiscent of the greatest sacrifice in the history of mankind.”
Dr Farooq said that may the day provide relief to the beleaguered people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and rid them of all the tribulations and problems they are facing.
While extending warm felicitations to the people, Omar Abdullah said, “At the very beginning, I wish Eid Mubarak to all. The auspicious day of the Eid-ul Adha stresses on the need for equality of mankind, god consciousness, generosity, alms giving and peaceful coexistence of the entire human kind.
The divinely inspired sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) and the obedience of his son Hazrat Ismail (PBUH) have immortalized the day till eternity. I hope and pray that the day strengthens the cord of brotherhood between the different communities in J&K and Ladakh. I also hope that the day acts as a harbinger of much needed peace and stability to the entire region.”
The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (JKPDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti extended her warm greetings and best wishes to the people on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.
In her message, Mehbooba emphasised the importance of Eid-ul-Adha as a time for introspection, gratitude, and coming together as a community. She also urged to celebrate this Eid with austerity and simplicity and remember the needy on this occasion.
Eid-ul-Adha is a reminder for all of us to strengthen our bonds of love and compassion, to extend a helping hand to those in need, and to practice empathy and generosity. Let us celebrate this joyous occasion with a sense of unity, spreading happiness and goodwill among all”, she said.
Mehbooba expressed her earnest desire for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir and the entire region.
She prayed for a joyous and blessed Eid-ul-Adha to everyone & expressed hope that this festive occasion would bring peace, harmony, and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir and foster unity among its diverse communities. ‘
Apni Party President Syed Mohammad AltafBukhari in his message said that Eid-ul-Adha is a festival of sacrifice wherein a person is supposed to give away his dear possessions to please Almighty Allah and also render a helping hand to the poor and needy.
Bukhari added that the holy occasions teach us to maintain high principles of selfless service to the Almighty Allah and humanity in general while expressing hope that this Eid will strengthen the communal brotherhood, harmony and bring peace, prosperity and well-being to Jammu and Kashmir and the people all over the world.
Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani In his felicitation message wished all Muslims around the world a peaceful and joyful Eid-ul-Adha.
He said “I extend my warm wishes to the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. May this Eid deepen the spirit of harmony, peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir. I urge people to take extra care in view of the COVID-19 pandemic on this occasion. We must remember economically downtrodden and underprivileged sections of the society who are worst affected by the COVID-19 lockdown and make them part of the Eid Celebration by extending all support to the people in need.”
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Vikar Rasool in his message said I sincerely wish people prosperity, good health and long life and hope that the occasion will be the harbinger of complete peace and stability in J&K.
He also urged the people to celebrate the occasion with austerity and take care of orphans, destitute and those who have no means of income to feed their families.
Communist Party of India – CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in his Eid message said he hopes this festival of joy and happiness will usher peace and prosperity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “May this festival strengthen mutual goodwill and inspire each one of us to follow the path of love, friendship, harmony and peace in the state,” he said.
BJP JK spokesman Altaf Thakur said that festival of Eid ul Adha also called Bakr Eid reminds us how Allah accepted the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) who was ready to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (AS).
“We continue to keep the mission of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) alive by offering the sacrifices of sheep, goat and other animals in the way of Allah. Eid reminds us to take care of poor, downtrodden and destitute in every locality. We should not forget the poor on this special and auspicious occasion,” he said.
Thakur said ‘ I pray to Almighty to your lives with joy and happiness on this occasion and make it a harbinger of peace, prosperity and love for all in J&K UT and rest of the country. May this occasion usher into a new dawn of everlasting peace in the UT. Wish my nears and dears, partymen and countrymen, a very happy and prosperous Eid ul Adha.”
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar in his message said that the religious festival symbolises the spirit of sacrifice, sharing and caring. He prayed that the blessed occasion further the spirit of brotherhood and compassion in JK in particular and the country in general.
