Srinagar, Jun 24: At least six residential houses were damaged in a land sinking incident at Rainawari area of Srinagar on Monday while the families have been evacuated on the directions of Tehsildar.
The locals from Khawaja Pora, Rainawari said that a land sinking incident has taken place in their locality, causing damage to at least six houses.
The affected families from Khawjapora lamented that only local police and the Tehsildar came on the first day to visit them, who declared the houses unsafe and evacuated them.
The land sinking incident, according to the locals, occurred a week ago and has raised concerns among residents, who are urgently seeking assistance from the administration.
“On the first day, the Tehsildar concerned and local police visited here, and except them, no one from the administration visited us,” said Irfan Shah, one of the locals, whose house got damaged in the incident.
He added that some families cannot afford rent or other accommodation, so they are forced to stay in those damaged houses, which is risky for them.
The families have appealed to the administration to visit the site, assess the damage, and provide guidance on the necessary measures.
“We want the officials from the administration to visit here and tell us what to do next. Our homes are damaged, and we are uncertain about our future,” another resident said.
