Expedite completion of new Orthopaedic Unit at B&J Hospital: Aijaz Asad

Srinagar, Jul 25: Secretary Planning, Monitoring & Development, Aijaz Asad, who is also holding charge of Chief Executive Officer Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), chaired a review meeting to expedite the procurement of medical equipments for the upcoming 120-bedded specialized orthopedic unit, including a six-bedded ICU.
The new unit is a crucial component of the Jhelum-Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) funded by the World Bank. The project aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the region.
The meeting was attended by Principal & Dean of Government Medical College Srinagar, Prof Dr. Iffat Hassan; Medical Superintendent of B&J Hospital Srinagar, Dr. Shabir Siddiqui; Professor & Head of Orthopaedics B&J Hospital Srinagar, Dr. Altaf Ahmad; Medical Consultant from the World Bank, Dr. Chandrasekhar; Project Manager ERA; Director (T); and representatives from NPCC Ltd., among others.
Addressing the participants, he said that the Jammu and Kashmir government is making significant strides in establishing a state-of-the-art orthopaedic facility at the Bone & Joint Hospital in Srinagar.
Discussions focused on addressing issues related to the procurement of medical equipment essential for the new specialized orthopaedic unit and ICU.
To ensure the highest quality of medical care, Aijaz Asad directed officials to meticulously review equipment specifications in coordination with the Government Medical College Srinagar.
The new orthopaedic unit is expected to provide advanced treatment options for patients with bone and joint ailments.
During the meeting, CEO ERA said the new orthopaedic unit is a crucial component of our vision for world-class healthcare in Jammu and Kashmir, and added that the government is committed to providing the best possible medical facilities to our people, and this unit will be a game-changer in orthopaedic care.
The government is committed to timely completion of this vital healthcare project, which will significantly benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
While speaking during the meeting, Principal & Dean GMC Srinagar, Dr. Iffat Hassan iterated that by expediting the procurement process, we aim to ensure that this state-of-the-art facility becomes operational at the earliest.
