Dr Rashmi visits Shopian, reviews progress on 2nd SSR of Electoral Rolls

Shopian, Aug 6: Commissioner Secretary Hospitality and Protocol Department, Dr. Rashmi Singh, who is also Electoral Roll Observer for Shopian District, Tuesday visited the district and took review of the ongoing process of 2nd Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Electoral Rolls.
During her visit, Dr. Rashmi Singh chaired a meeting with the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and other concerned staff.
District Election Officer, Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb on the occasion provided a comprehensive briefing, outlining the various facets of ongoing Summary Revision including new registrations, deletions, and modifications.
It was informed that more than 3000 new registrations have been made during the ongoing SSR. The meeting was also briefed about SVEEP activities, organisation of Special Camps, house to house verifications, rationalization of polling stations, EP Ratio and other related matters.
During the meeting, the Commissioner Secretary called for strengthening the outreach for inclusion of all eligible voters in the Roll through coordinated SVEEP and SSR activities. She remarked that enhancing electoral literacy and participation is the hallmark of healthy democracy.
Dr. Rashmi Singh commended the district administration for the historic voter turnout in General Elections,2024 in the district, attributing it to the district’s efforts in promoting democratic participation while urging all stakeholders to continue their efforts for more inclusive and participatory electoral process ahead. She also met some newly registered voters and sought their feedback on the registration process.
Dr. Rashmi Singh also met representatives of various political parties to ensure their participation and involvement and to address any concerns regarding the ongoing revision process. She advised them to appoint their Booth Level Agents for better coordination.
Commissioner Secretary also implored upon representatives of political parties to proactively participate in ongoing Special Summary Revision so that no eligible elector is left out.
Early in the day, Dr. Rashmi Singh took part in Plantation Drive under “ Eik Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam” along with DC Shopian at the lawns of Mini Secretariat.
