Srinagar, Sep 11: In a significant development, Former legislator and ex vice-chairman Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Nizamuddin Bhat on Wednesday joined the Congress in Srinagar a day ahead of last date for filling nomination papers for third phase of assembly election.
Bhat joined the grand old party in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra in Srinagar.
The development comes a day ahead of the last date of filling nominations papers for third phase of Jammu and Kashmir polls on Thursday. Bhat is yet to file his nomination papers for Bandipora constituency that will vote in the third phase of J&K polls on October 1.
Notably, in the NC-Congress alliance Bandipora seat has been allotted to the Congress in the seat-sharing pact. Bhat joining the grand old party is seen as major boost with the seat being jointly contested by the National Conference and Congress.
Bhat was already seen as a major contender for Bandipora constituency with mass following that has been growing over the weeks. (KNO)
