Anantnag witnesses tourism boom

Srinagar, Sep 14: With an aim to have the first-hand account of the preservation and conservation works being executed by the Department of Archives, Archeology and Museums (AAM), Director, AAM, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha Saturday inspected the ongoing works in Tangmarg and Gulmarg, areas of Baramulla district.
The Director was accompanied by Engineers of R&B Department, Assistant Director AAM, Kashmir and other concerned officers.
The Director, during his visit, inspected works like preservation and restoration of Ancient Temple and Watch Tower at Ferozpur, Drung, Tangmarg; restoration of Ancient Mosque at Hajibal, Tangmarg and improvement and restoration work of St. Mary Church at Gulmarg.
On the occasion, Sidha expressed concern towards the framing of DPRs/Work estimates without any technical guidance of any Specialized Agency which is involved in Preservation and Restoration of Ancient Monuments and Heritage Buildings and Sites.
While tallying the components of works being executed and the actual execution on ground, the Director raised serious questions towards unrealistic and false estimation of the works being carried out with more than higher costs.
On spot directions were issued to Engineers of R&B Department and AD, AAM, Kashmir to avoid such violations and ensure transparent monitoring of works being executed by the department.
The Director cautioned the Field officers as well as the Executing Agencies to remain cautious with their approach and conduct as there shall be no compromise on maintenance of financial discipline and objective of the department.
The local residents at Hajibal while appreciating the effort and steps being taken by the Director, AAM also emphasized upon restoring Heritage buildings to their original glory.
