Ahead of winter season, the fire-affected families of Mul Warwan area of Kishtwar have been facing immense hardships as several families amongst them have been living under open sky following the huge devastation created by the fire incident. The fire incident rendered nearly 95 families homeless, who are presently living in tents, or the accommodation provided by the government on a temporary basis. The loss of property is profound, but the emotional toll on families who have lost their homes, belongings, and a sense of security is immeasurable. In the aftermath of this disaster, our collective response must be one of compassion and urgency. In times of crisis, it is imperative that the government authorities and NGOs step in promptly to provide the necessary relief. Immediate assistance in the form of food, clothing, and medical aid is critical. Moreover, the longer-term solutions—such as housing support and financial aid—must be prioritized to help families rebuild their lives. We must remember that recovery is not just about physical rebuilding; it’s also about restoring hope and dignity to those affected. As a citizen of this society, the people need to play a key role at this juncture. The fire in Warwan Kishtwar is a tragedy that demands our immediate attention and action. Let us not wait for the ashes to settle before we act. We have a responsibility to ensure that those affected receive the assistance they need to rise from the ashes, rebuild their homes, and restore their lives.
