Sakeena Itoo reviews progress on health projects

Jammu, Oct 26: Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma on Saturday led District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting here in the presence of District Development Council Chairman Bharat Bhushan, district officers and local MLAs to review development projects and welfare initiatives across district Jammu Saturday.
The meeting was attended by Members of Legislative Assembly Akhnoor, Mohan Lal; MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa; MLA Bishnah Rajeev Kumar; MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi; MLA Jammu North Sham Lal Sharma; MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta; MLA Marh Surinder Kumar; MLA R.S. Pura-Jammu South Dr. Narinder Singh Raina and MLA Suchetgarh Gharu Ram.
District Development Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya provided an in-depth PowerPoint presentation that detailed the district’s achievements across centrally sponsored schemes, along with an update on local developmental efforts.
Jugal Kishore Sharma reviewed the status of centrally sponsored schemes and ongoing development projects, examining the status of initiatives and assessing the impact of schemes aimed at enhancing public welfare.
Infrastructure development took centre stage as the committee deliberated on several key projects, including the strategically important Jammu-Akhnoor highway project. The need to expedite work on the flyover near Canal Head Jammu was stressed, with calls for expert consultation to accelerate the process.
The meeting particularly focussed on the Jal Jeevan Mission, with the MP expressing special concern regarding its execution and delivery. “Timely implementation of JJM is crucial for ensuring water security in our region,” Sharma emphasised during the discussions.
DDC Chairman Bharat Bhushan raised additional public concerns related to the Ring Road project and highlighted the importance of supporting farmers through awareness for fertiliser use. He also advocated for the improvement of procurement centre operations to genuinely assist farmers.
In addition to infrastructure, the committee reviewed various welfare schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, MGNREGA, Swachh Bharat Mission and the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). The discussion extended to social security schemes, PMGSY, the Border Area Development Programme (BADP), the National Food Security Scheme and the Mid-day Meal program.
Healthcare infrastructure remained a focal point, with MLAs and MPs stressing the importance of accessible and efficient healthcare facilities. Concerns were raised over the completion of border bunkers, which are vital for the safety of border area citizens.
Concluding the session, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma praised the productive discussions, reiterating his commitment to collaboration and emphasising the need for efficient project delivery and the timely implementation of government schemes. He urged all officers to ensure that each initiative aligns with the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision, reinforcing that “every citizen should experience the benefits of these development efforts.”
