Jammu, Jan 13: The city of Jammu came alive on Monday with the vibrant celebrations of Lohri, as people embraced the spirit of togetherness and festivity.
The bonfires were lit across the city, filling the air with the delightful aroma of roasted peanuts, rewari, and jaggery, while the sounds of traditional songs echoed through the chilly winter night.
Lohri, a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm in northern India, marks the end of winter and the arrival of longer days. In Jammu, it holds a special place in the hearts of locals, bringing communities together in a spirit of gratitude and joy.
Families and friends gathered around bonfires, offering prayers for prosperity and happiness, symbolizing new beginnings.
Markets across Jammu were abuzz with activity, adorned with colorful decorations and stalls selling traditional items like popcorn, sesame (til), and jaggery. The festive atmosphere was further enriched by cultural programs, folk music, and traditional dance performances organized in various parts of the city.
Local community leaders and organizations also hosted special events to highlight the cultural significance of Lohri. Schools and colleges participated enthusiastically, organizing celebrations to educate younger generations about the festival’s heritage and traditions.
“This is the time of year when we come together as a community to celebrate our culture and express gratitude for the harvest,” said Rajinder Sharma, a resident of Gandhi Nagar.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations, security arrangements were put in place across the city. Top security officials and administrative teams worked tirelessly to maintain order and safety, allowing citizens to enjoy the festival without concern.
With bonfires symbolizing hope and songs narrating tales of Punjabi folklore, Lohri in Jammu serves as a vivid reminder of the region’s rich cultural tapestry. (KINS)
