Srinagar, Jan 21: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations authorities have beefed up the security across Jammu and Kashmir.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, while talking to the reporters here said that the multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place to ensure “disruption free” Republic Day celebrations.
This year’s Republic Day will be the first following the formation of an elected government after the abrogation of J&K’s special status in 2019.
IGP Birdi, said, “The preparations for 26th January are in full swing, and there will be multi-tier security arrangements to ensure that people can come and go smoothly and enjoy the parade with peace of mind.”
Meanwhile, an official said that the multi-tier security measures have been put in place to ensure that day passes peacefully.
“Sanitization and area domination exercises are being carried out by security personnel to ensure safety of the people,” the official added.
“The security has been beefed up in 20 districts, particularly in the border areas. Enhanced security measures, include road blockades, vehicle checks, security cordons, and search operations,” the official said.
He said there is an extensive deployment of police and paramilitary forces along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC). “Senior officers have reviewed security arrangements in sensitive border areas to ensure effective coordination between various agencies,” he added.
“To further bolster security, advanced surveillance technologies, including drones and high-resolution CCTV cameras, have been deployed to monitor event venues and surrounding areas,” he said, adding that checkpoints have been set up in Srinagar and other district headquarters, particularly at key entry points.
“Random vehicle checks and frisking operations are being conducted to prevent the movement of subversive elements,” he added.
