Kargil, Jan 28: In a landmark development for the region, the administration in the Union Territory of Ladakh has provided Drass, a sub-division in Kargil, with its first-ever fire tender.
This initiative responds to the long-standing concerns raised by the residents, who have highlighted the absence of adequate firefighting resources in the area.
A formal ceremony to hand over the fire tender was held today, with several key officials present.
Councillor Bhimbat, Abdul Wahid, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass, along with other dignitaries, were part of the event where the fire tender was officially received.
Councillor Abdul Wahid marked the occasion by cutting the ribbon, signifying the start of a new chapter in fire safety for Drass.
In his address, Councillor Wahid expressed his deep appreciation for the UT Administration Ladakh, especially the Lieutenant Governor, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, and the Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC, Kargil, for their steadfast efforts in responding to the needs of Drass.
He highlighted the importance of the fire tender in safeguarding the lives and property of the people in the region.
The addition of the fire tender is set to improve emergency response times, offering crucial support in tackling fire-related emergencies.
Residents of Drass have expressed their gratitude, recognizing this as a vital step towards enhancing public safety in the region. “For years, we’ve had to wait for help to arrive from far away, but now with this fire tender, we feel much safer,” local resident Ghulam Hassan said..
This move reflects the administration’s ongoing commitment to addressing the welfare of its communities.
