Srinagar, Feb 24: Authorities have projected that by 2027-28, J&K and Ladakh may share 230-740 MW of power to other states keeping in view possible surplus capacity available from April to September in the years to come.
According to official documents, “Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is likely to have surplus capacity available from April to September in the range of 230-740 MW for 2027-28 which can be shared with other states.”
Besides, the documents further state that coal capacity Plant Load Factor (PLF) is expected to remain in the range of 46 percent to 81 percent for the years till 2035.
“The coal capacity PLF is expected to remain in the range of 46 percent to 81 percent for the years till 2035—reducing from 81 percent in 2024-25 to 46 percent in 2034-35—thus ensuring higher absorption of higher renewable energy,” it reads.
It also said that in the alternate resilient scenario, coal requirement increases by around 287 MW compared to the base case in terminal year 2034-35. “The Short Term Open Access (STOA) requirement in 2024-25 increases by around 144 MW in case of Alternate Resilient scenario in comparison to the base case.”
“Jammu and Kashmir is surplus in fulfillment of its Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO) and need not contract renewable capacities for fulfilling them. The projected capacity and generation mix fulfils the RPO till 2029-30 as per the Ministry of Power nonfiction issued in 2023,” it reads.
