Srinagar, Apr 14: Accusing ruling National Conference of sabotaging the last three days of the assembly session, Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir, being the only Muslim province in the country, should have passed a resolution on Waqf Amendment Act.
Talking to reporters, Lone said that he was not surprised by Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement wherein he supported the Speaker’s decision to disallow the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill, passed in the Parliament.
“I fail to understand whom they (NC) legislators were raising the concerns in the Assembly. The party has 50 MLAs while the Speaker belongs to them as well. But, they missed a historic opportunity to discuss the bill and pass a resolution over it. They sabotaged the discussion on the Waqf Act to appease BJP,” he said, adding that J&K being the only Muslim province should have passed a resolution on the Act to send an emotional message over the issue.
He said that passing the resolution in the Assembly could have sent a powerful message, instead the party sabotaged the last three days in the House in a bid to appease BJP. (KNO)
