In order to appreciate all parents for their “selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship, the Global Day of Parents is observed every year on 1 June. 2025 will focus on the theme “Raising Parents.” This theme acknowledges that parenting is a learned skill and emphasizes the importance of providing parents and caregivers with the necessary support, resources, and training to effectively raise children. This observance recognizes that the family unit is integral to the social, emotional, and physical development of children, serving as the foundation for creating responsible and productive citizens.
The Global Day of Parents is an important event that looks at the role of a mother, a father or a guardian in building their children’s future. The day recognises the efforts of parents as they play a major role in the social, mental and physical development of their kids. It gives them an opportunity to thank them for their unconditional dedication.
Celebrating the Global Day of Parents can be as simple as letting your parents or guardians know how thankful you are for their love and commitment. Of course, parents have been doing an important job since the beginning of human history! Bringing children into the world and then raising them up to be happy, healthy and productive members of society is no small task.
Being a parent is one of the biggest joys and responsibilities that cannot be described in words. All the love, care, affection, and hard work that parents put towards nurturing their kids is beyond comparison. Therefore, it is important to recognize the efforts and sacrifices of parents towards providing their kids with a healthy and balanced life.
Studies show that trauma and emotional wounds sustained during childhood significantly hinder a child’s development and outlook on life, posing a barrier to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. During the 1980’s, the United Nations began to focus on family-related issues, recognizing how the emotional and well-being of children significantly impacts broader spheres of development. On December 9, 1989, the General Assembly passed a resolution declaring 1994 as the International Year of the Family. Subsequently, in 1993, another resolution established May 15 as the International Day of Families.
Parents play a crucial role in a child’s development, encompassing numerous and varied responsibilities. They provide everything a child needs during their growth and formative years. Parents are a beacon of a child’s life. They lay the foundation for children, and nurture and equip them with the skills that are necessary throughout life. Parents protect their children and make countless selfless sacrifices to ensure their growth.
Those of us who have a friendship with our parents and are able to have a healthy relationship based on trust and respect rather than authority or strict guardianship are lucky. It is truly a blessing to have good parents. Let us remember that Parents’ Day is the perfect time to show gratitude and appreciation towards your parent’s for blessing you with a life worth living as it is believed that celebrating Parents’ Day help kids realize the importance of parents in their lives and strengthen their relationship further. In today’s busy world, this day brings kids and parents together to celebrate and spend some quality time with each other.
