Materialism, social pressure key to growing debt crisis in Kashmir

With an aim to bring respite to the unemployed youth, a Mission YUVA—initiative has been emerging as a transformative force for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir has been grappling with unemployment for a long time. But, the incumbent administration has been focused toward ensuring better facilities and opportunities to the educated but unemployed youth. Thus, the Mission Yuva is one among the opportunities that are streamlining the livelihood for the youngsters, who are proving their mettle to earn their livelihood and also ensure the progress of the nation as well. Mission YUVA aims to break the cycle of frustration and economic insecurity by equipping youth with the skills, support systems, and opportunities they need to become self-reliant and future-ready. By focusing on skill development, entrepreneurship, sports, cultural engagement, and digital literacy, the mission addresses the core of the unemployment issue—not just the lack of jobs, but the mismatch between skills and market demands. One of the most commendable aspects of Mission YUVA is its community-based approach. Through partnerships with educational institutions, training centers, local industries, and government schemes, it ensures that opportunities are not just created but are accessible, equitable, and aligned with regional realities. Whether it is helping a young woman from Kupwara start her own tailoring unit, training a group of boys in Anantnag in digital marketing, or identifying sports talent in remote districts, the mission is touching lives where it matters most. While Mission YUVA has made a promising start, it now requires deepening—through increased budget allocations, improved infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and regular performance audits. Success stories must be scaled, and systemic bottlenecks must be removed swiftly. Equally, youth voices must be central to the mission’s evolution—because only when the youth are partners in shaping their own future can such a program truly succeed.
